The initial argument was about LaTeX as a whole and mentioned the
difficulties with the templates which are largely a problem with the
templating system which uses reserved characters. Yes , the template
system is braindead, but it isn't so much the fault of LaTeX...
1.2 will have a better templating system which will easily support
text, LaTeX, and any SGML subset that supports embedded program
instructions (includes HTML and XML). This will allow for a generic
mechanism for template processing that can be used for everything from
XML export to rendering pages as well as supporting every current
template (with a few changes that can easily be automated). I expect
that templating system to allow for a *lot* of new features including
the ability to easily create shopping cart software using LedgerSMB,
etc. It will even be a large step towards xhtml-compliant interfaces.
Best Wishes,
Chris Travers

Chris,
See the last message I just sent. Why do you address documentation
issues and generation of cheques etc from the system as the same issue?
What is in common between them?
