Another option if you like is that we can help provide technical
direction if you need to help provide support for customers with older
versions of PostgreSQL. Just because we don't support it out of the
box doesn't mean that it can't be supported.

The equivalence with Debian is usually to Testing and some Unstable. My
arguments were more for Debian than for Ubuntu although I mixed the two
