Sorry -didn't get back to you right away. I'm not sure what was going wrong with the setup. I reverted to 1.1.1c from a backup. Then a yesterday I upgraded to 1.1.7 and all works fine again. It is on Linux (Centos) and it is the installation that I am using for the firm of architects.
