Re: Duplicate General Journal Entries

Hi Erik,

Thank you very much for responding!

In this case, I posted by opening a previous journal entry (by clicking on its Reference number in a report).  I manually changed the reference number, cut and pasted each value in the Debit column to its corresponding field in the Credit column (and vice versa for the Credit values).  Once this was done, I clicked on the 'Post as new' button.

To run a report, I expand General Journal in the left-hand column, then click on Reports.  I enter an identifying keyword in the description field and click the Continue button.  The ensuing report shows three posts that I have made with the keyword in the description field.  The first is fine, the second is duplicated, and the third one (the reversing entry that I made today) is shown in triplicate!

I did not run a balance sheet or income statement prior to posting the reversal entry.  However, these books are for a new company for which I just started making General Journal entries to record payroll last month.  I can see from the balance sheet that the CPP Payable value is incorrect: instead of being the sum of the amounts debited to the CPP Payable account from the first two journal entries I posted, its value is equal to exactly twice the amount debited to the CPP Payable account in the second journal entry (which is the one that shows up twice in the report).

If I click on Chart of Accounts (under Reports in the left-hand column) then click on the CPP Payable account, I only see the first journal entry I made.  I do not see the second one, nor the third, reversing, entry.  This is weird!

Thanks,

Jason Kay.

Hi,

> Second, I am wondering if somebody can shed some light on a situation I have encountered while using LedgerSMB 1.3.18 on Debian 7.0.  I noticed that a General Journal entry I made some time ago had been duplicated, right down to its system assigned Reference number.  I opened the entry and reversed the various debits and credits to correct this, then clicked the Post As New button.  I ran a report to verify the results: the reversing entry shows up THREE times!!!  Is this a known bug in this version of LedgerSMB?  If so (and assuming it has been fixed) is there a newer version of LedgerSMB available as a Debian package?  How can I remove these extra General Journal entries?

To the best of my knowledge, this isn't a known bug.

Could you provide us with a detailed description of what you're doing to create the posting as well as the steps you go through to assess the duplicity? Have you tried running the balancesheet or incomestatement reports before and after the reversal? if the numbers changed there as expected, this could be a reporting issue (instead of an accounting issue).

Thanks for taking the time to report your problem!

bye,

Erik.
