1.3 handles things a bit differently, security-wise, so it isn't entirely surprising that some configurations that worked with 1.2 are not working with 1.3.

This is what it looks like:

Try changing hte above two lines to:

local all postgres md5

host    all         all         127.0.0.1/32          md5

# IPv6 local connections:

The rest is commented out.

but it isn't, it's aat http://......./ledgersmb/

Ok, so ruling that out.....

can you check your httpd error logs and see what it prints when it gives the auth dialog?
