Longtable & bad page breaks in tex

I have never gotten proper page breaks with printing tex templates on
Ledgersmb.
Frequently I get blank or partially blank pages between pages.
Most of the time I get the heading of the items and description and then
the rest of the page blank, on the next page the list of items runs off
the page.
I also get different results with different invoices etc.
It has be suggested to use longtable instead of tabularx since I have
several paragraph descriptions of items.
I am looking for examples of longtable in a Ledgersmb template, if anyone
has had luck with this thank you.
I have not been able to get Longtable to work with my own research.
I would also be willing to hire whomever feels like a tex expert to fix this.
