How about documenting the changes needed in order to run on 8.3 and leave it up to the user for now? Yes, there are many who may not have the the comfort level necessary to do this but you accomplish the same thing as your final option: no support for 8.3. But at least you're not telling people you aren't supporting 8.3 directly. :)
