Hi Chris,

I started translating (fixing the existing and translating the
untranslated messages).

Great :-)  It will be nice to have more translations fully supported.

In fact, I have a "client", who is interesting to develop a GPL ERP
system, which should kick on SAP, Oracle and so on.

That is what we are here to do, but we also want to beat Quickbooks too :-)  Tell your associate to come and join in the fun :-)

He started to play with ledger on my demo system (I am still using that
died fork of sql-ledger) and he told me, this kind of software should be
a good basis of the development.

One thing I would say is that we are working *hard* to improve the code quality of the application.  I expect that within a year or so, we should have the code pretty well under control.

This guy is really a professional in making good ERP systems. He has lot
of experiences in that field (12yrs) and he is an Oracle, M$
distributor.
So, if he says, this is good basis, it is that :)

I (and I am sure the rest of the core team too) would be glad to accept his help.  There are two caveats to mention, however:

1)  The code we inherited has some pretty dreadful scalability issues.  We have eliminated a number of those but will expect to find more before we are done with the rewrite.

2)  The code we inherited has some serious maintainability issues.  We are working on those (expect it to be about a year before those are under control).

So, when I mentioned, I can help this project somehow, I thought, "we
can help somehow with this guy".

Great :-)

So, we can prepare some documents about the requirements, some forms
made with frontpage to show some idea.

Agreed.

My opinion, our experiences really can help to improve the functionality
and professionality of this software.

By the way, as I know, ledgersmb should be used via the command line. Is
it true for all its functions? Any restrictions?

Ideally, it is primarily a web-based application.  However, it currently can also be used from the command-line but this is fairly awkward.  Longer-run, we are moving all the data logic into the database itself so that add-ons can use any language for their development, and so that the database is safe and secure regardless of how the data is accessed.

Thanks,
Chris Travers
