The basic problem has to do with controlling hardware from a CGI application.
Currently LedgerSMB supports (with caveats below):
* Logic Controls Pole Displays (other pole displays could be supported
if a simple driver is written). Default scripts assume serial
connection.
* ESC-POS receipt printers. Default scripts assume parallel connection.
* Cash drawers that run connect to the printer.
* Keyboard-wedge barcode scanners and magnetic stripe readers
There are a few caveats to using LedgerSMB with the hardware above:
1) Windows POS terminals (cash registers) are currently unsupported.
2) The POS requires some additional setup on both the server and terminal.
3) You want to be somewhat familiar with the hardware before you begin.
The best way to go is to get on the IRC channel on your first setup
and discuss the issue with me. This is actually a fairly complicated
field and this has hampered documentation.
Best Wishes,
