Problem during install

[beamends <..hidden..>]

Hi all,
Ubuntu conked out on me and lost everything (nice blank back-up CD!) so
I'm re-installing, using
http://www.howtoforge.com/ledgersmb_debian_etch

I've go as far as :

cd /usr/local/ledgersmb
perl Build.PL

which results in :

..hidden..:/usr/local/ledgersmb$ perl Build.PL
Can't locate Module/Build.pm in @INC (@INC
contains: /etc/perl /usr/local/lib/perl/5.8.8 /usr/local/share/perl/5.8.8 /usr/lib/perl5 /usr/share/perl5 /usr/lib/perl/5.8 /usr/share/perl/5.8 /usr/local/lib/site_perl .) at Build.PL line 4.
BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at Build.PL line 4.

There's no /usr/local/lib/perl/5.8.8  file, so I assume this is the
problem - but how does this get created - have I missed a step?
