Integrating LedgerSMB with dental software running on mySQL

One programmer from Italy is planning to write a Dental Package in Java and mySQL.
How hard would be to interface LedgerSMB with such software? LedgerSMB runs on Postresql and his software will be
running mySQL database
Will it be a problem linking records payment in LedgerSMB to dental records in mySQL?
