Could you give an actual example of the entry in the [printers] section of ledgersmb.conf and the appropriate error, please?
It might also help to tell us what o/s &/or distro you're using & which version of CUPS.
Certainly lp & lpr both work here, and I'm using CUPS. Stroller.
