Just as a follow-up here I solved one issue right now. My system with
2GB of RAM now runs into issues around the 70-100MB range.
The problem appears to be that memory from file.pl ends up stabilizing
at about 12 times the size fo the file upload. Above that things
hang and then eventually crash with an out of memory error.
