Chris I see now thanks for the detailed explanation. I appreciate all the time you put in to this discussion. We dont use inventory now with our custom system. I am not sure but I think I figured out what I need to write for Think to use inventory. We use the "just in time" system. The customer orders the electrical work then parts delivery to job site same day as the parts are needed. Parts are in our inventory for less than a month tops. We keep zillions of items in the database for estimating assemblies. Most will never be stocked but could be. When there are surplus reels of wire or something common for repairs or service they are inventory. Therefore non stock items can not be services. I need to make a button (sub function) that makes both a sales order and a purchase order from a quotation. When we sell a job we know we are going to go buy the parts. It could tell too if there were items in the inventory left over from another job. The next problem I run into with this is I dont know who the vendor is until later when the electrician returns with the receipts. I could guess we usually buy from vendor A but vendor A might be out of the way so the electrician goes to more expensive vendor B to save on time. I guess I could make a generic PO then have the select what items are from what vendor happen at a later stage. -- Cheers Turtle _________________________________________ FYI the .asc file is a digital signature see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pretty_Good_Privacy for more info.
