I understand your pain too. I'm a fairly experienced Apache and MySQL
user but know very little about postgres. I eventually installed webmin
on my database machine and used that to configure postgres. Webmin is
really useful and gives you a click and drool interface to many
subsystems. It has a postgres module which I have found is the easiest
way to configure postgres if you aren't familiar with it.
