The system you're proposing is as simple as it is effective, I'd say. Elsewhere on this mailing list, David is suggesting to use a wiki to distribute content to our users; it's my feeling that the wiki is harder to combine with individual elements on the page as I think you're suggesting.

It's great to see a number of people starting about this topic at the same time! Apparently the time has come for LedgerSMB to develop a help system! I love it!

At the same time, lets try to get a *single* help system into place where the community at large feels comfortable helping out to realise a (well) functioning ecosystem with contributions, etc.

Which brings me to the question: I like the simplicity of your proposed solution, very much. But the property of David's proposal -- "live" distribution of updates to our users -- is very appealing too. As you correctly point out, at this point, it would need application changes to make existing users of the 1.4 series benefit though.
