We enter the service code into the "Number" field, eg "linux-cons" and press <Update>

This brings up a line with the generic  "Linux Consultancy" in the Description field.

We then cut and paste the ticket number from our Help Desk and append it to the description field - eg description becomes

"Linux Consultancy - Ticket #5372 "

In the Notes box, we paste the short description of the job - it ends up looking something like

"Ticket #5372 - 0.5 hours - resolve Samba login problem and update system
Ticket #5381 - 0.5 hours - add new user Bob
Ticket #5372 - 1.0 hours - install and configure MailScanner, spamassassin, clamav mail filtering"

It's a manual process, but it works for our job volumes.  And it doesn't require much fiddling with the templates.  The line items are clear, and the customer can refer to the notes if they want slightly more detail on each job.
