Have you modified the tables in any way, i.e. connected directly with MS
Access or some other management tool?

It looks like the update you are trying to do is in the wrong format, rather
than a wrong value i.e. system is expecting a number and you are putting in
alpha numeric.

Just a thought??

Which version of PostgreSQL?  You may also want to try on the PostgreSQL
list (pg-general).  We have a few PostgreSQL geeks on this list, but they
have more, and better :-)
