Installation woes on Ubuntu

Hi all.
I'd like to give LedgerSMB a try but am running in a number of issues.
I've been able to install everything and even to start the setup process.
I created a brand new DB with the chart of the accounts and a full
permission user.
When I try to log in, I first get the login page. I enter the
credentials and suddenly I get a HTTP authetication request
asking for username and password.

The error.log says:
