Thanks everyone for the warm welcome.  I will definitely check out the 
Community Guide that Eric mentioned and think about possible 
improvements.  Response to Chris's very kind offer inline.

To answer Erik's question about project selection, I looked at a list of 
accounting / ERP packages on Wikipedia.  LedgerSMB struck me as having 
the best combination of freeness (as in speech), active development, 
underlying technologies, and a real codebase that does real things.  I 
guess I must have liked the website as well.

Although my business is on hold for now, it would be nice to be able to 
use LedgerSMB for that so I can say I use it myself for real work.  
Something for the future.

Chris - as I alluded to above, it's really very nice of you indeed to 
offer this.  I would definitely like to take you up on it.  With my wife 
away indefinitely and all week to focus on my studies, I could make any 
weekend to suit you and Rob.  The only time I can't do is 11 December - 
4 January when I will be visiting my wife abroad.

Before meeting I think it would be worthwhile me practicing Perl and 
reading the codebase so as to make best use of your time.  So perhaps we 
could look at late Nov to early December, or the new year, if that suits 
the two of you?

Whereabouts are you guys based?  I'm in Cardiff but of course willing to 
travel.
